Energy production rose by 6% in 2018–19 to 19,711 petajoules. This is consistent with the trend in energy production over the past decade. Coal accounted for 66% of Australia’s energy production in 2018–19, followed by natural gas.
Australia’s energy production has become increasingly export-oriented. Australia is a net exporter of energy, with net exports equal to around 68% of production.
